About the Department

The Department of English of Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Research programmes in English Literature; BA, MA, MPhil & PhD respectively. The Department introduces great works of literature to the students. An attempt is made to blend the study of classic texts and literary tradition with contemporary theoretical methods. The Department of English encourages the students to cultivate flexible, critical and responsive thinking that would develop their communication and literary skills. Through reading, discussing, and critiquing literary works students learn to think critically about art, culture, and also to thoughtfully approach social and political issues and articulate their reflections with great clarity and conviction.

After 2 or 3 years of completion of the programme, the Graduates will

  • Contribute to the growth, unity and integrity of the society at large.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES OF BA ENGLISH LITERATURE

Upon the completion of the programme, the students will be able to

  • Apply knowledge of Language, Literature, and History.
  • Use appropriate knowledge to identify and analyze literary techniques in texts.
  • Create Literature: simple poem, short story and essay.
  • Select and apply appropriate literary theories to analyze a text.
  • Work effectively as a professional in fields like Teaching, Mass Media, and business and others.
  • Communicate plain literary concepts within the profession and with society at large. The ability includes reading, writing, speaking and listening, and it enables them to comprehend, write, edit and review.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the literature professional.
  • Identify address their own needs in a changing world and apply life-long learning to maintain their competence and to allow themselves to contribute to the societal growth.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES OF MA ENGLISH LITERATURE

Upon the completion of the programme, the students will be able to

  • Ability to apply knowledge of Language, Literature, Criticism, Psychology and History.
  • Ability to use appropriate knowledge and skills to identify, formulate, analyze, and solve complex problems in order to reach substantiated conclusions.
  • Ability to conduct investigations of complex problems through appropriate analysis and interpretation of literature to reach valid conclusions.
  • Ability to create any kind of genre in literature.
  • Ability to create, select, apply, adapt, and extend appropriate literary theories and techniques with an understanding of the associated limitations.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member and leader in the fields like Teaching, Mass Media, BPS, and Human Resource Management.
  • Ability to communicate complex literary concepts within the profession and with society at large. The ability includes reading, writing, speaking and listening, and it enables them to comprehend, write, edit and review.
